Tailoring Ultrafast Spectroscopy

The Cushing Lab at Caltech specializes in the development of spectroscopic techniques that can answer materials and physical chemistry questions. We are currently building instruments around ultrafast X-rays, entangled photons from free space to chip-scale, laser-driven ultrafast impedance, and femto-nano resolved electron wavepackets. The instruments are used to measure how external perturbations like light, heat, and pressure can be used to transform molecular and material systems for modern applications. The instruments are the heart of our science, allowing collaborative investigations that range from energy conversion and storage to the study of entangled light matter interactions and qubits.
